Historic Renovation + Preservation

Mason Architects believes that the preservation and adaptive reuse of historic structures is an important way for a community to understand its past. The Firm recognizes the substantial value of the atmosphere of a historic building and the character of its site and believes that skillful design solutions can successfully update its programmatic uses and reduce the environmental impact of development by requiring less energy, less material and less waste. The team at Mason Architects enjoys the challenges of modifying older buildings to meet current code requirements. Our recent experience with the Santa Barbara Biltmore by Reginald Johnson and the Pasadena YWC by Julia Morgan has maintained the significant architectural and historic space and elements while allowing for current uses.
