Our client purchased a 1920s 1200sf seaside cottage located along the Pacific coast south of Santa Barbara and wished to convert it into a vacation home / AirBnB. The project involved seismic retrofitting, reconfiguring the interior spaces, adding two bedrooms, and renovating the facade and roof, with an addition of 200sf living area.

The west-side platform of the building faces the Pacific Ocean, offering direct ocean views. However, the original design placed the bathroom and kitchen on the west side. We redesigned the layout, completely opening up the west side with floor-to-ceiling glass windows, integrating the great room with a new porch to create an indoor outdoor space with a fantastic view. In collaboration with structural engineers, we preserved as much of the original structure as possible while uncovering the ceiling to transform the 8-foot interior space into a high vaulted living area.
